Cookie Policy
Effective Date: July 9, 2026
1. What This Policy Covers
This policy explains the cookies and similar browser storage (such as local storage) that LawyerServed uses, and the choices available to you. It supplements our Privacy Policy.
2. Strictly Necessary Cookies
These cookies are required for the Service to function and cannot be disabled:
- Supabase authentication cookies (name prefixed
sb-) — keep you signed in and refresh your session on each request. Set when you log in; cleared when you log out or the session expires. - Cookie consent record (
ls_cookie_consent) — remembers whether you accepted or declined non-essential cookies, so we don't ask again for one year.
3. Analytics Cookies (Requires Your Consent)
We use PostHog to understand how the Service is used (for example, which pages are viewed and which searches are performed) so we can improve it. PostHog sets its own cookies and/or browser storage to assign your browser an analytics identifier and record page views and product-usage events.
PostHog is not loaded until you accept non-essential cookies in the banner shown on your first visit. If you decline, PostHog is never initialized and no analytics cookies are set. You can change your choice at any time by clearing the ls_cookie_consent cookie in your browser and reloading the page.
4. Error Monitoring
We use Sentry to capture unhandled errors so we can fix bugs. Sentry runs on every visit and is not gated by the cookie-consent banner, because it exists to keep the Service reliable rather than to track you for analytics or advertising. On the pages where an error occurs, Sentry may record a short replay of what was on screen to help us diagnose the problem; it does not do this on pages where no error happens.
5. Local Storage (Not Cookies)
Some features store data only in your browser's local storage — this data is never sent to our servers as a "cookie" and is not used for advertising:
- Theme preference — remembers whether you chose light, dark, or system appearance.
- Lawyer comparison list — remembers which lawyers you've added to your comparison tray (up to 4).
- Search result cache — a short-lived local cache of recent search results so pages you've already visited load instantly when you navigate back.
6. Your Choices
You can accept or decline non-essential (analytics) cookies from the banner shown on your first visit. Declining does not affect your ability to search, browse, or use the core Service — it only disables PostHog analytics. You can also block or delete cookies through your browser's settings at any time, though this may sign you out or require you to re-enter your preferences.
7. Changes to This Policy
LawyerServed may update this Cookie Policy as the Service changes. We will revise the effective date above when we do.
