Accessibility Statement

Effective Date: July 9, 2026

Our Commitment

LawyerServed is committed to making our directory, tools, and lawyer profiles usable by everyone, including people who rely on assistive technology such as screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, voice control, or screen magnification. Our target conformance standard is WCAG 2.1 Level AA (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, published by the W3C).

Conformance Status

LawyerServed is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. "Partially conformant" means some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard yet — see Known Limitations below. Conformance is checked continuously: an automated accessibility test suite (built on axe-core, the open-source rules engine that also powers Google Lighthouse and WAVE) scans our key pages for WCAG 2.1 A/AA violations on every change to the site, and a companion keyboard-navigation suite verifies that primary navigation, forms, and expandable menus are fully operable without a mouse.

Measures We Take

  • A "Skip to main content" link is the first focusable element on every page, so keyboard and screen-reader users can bypass repeated header navigation (WCAG 2.4.1).
  • Semantic HTML landmarks (header, nav, main, footer), heading levels, and ARIA attributes (e.g. aria-expanded, aria-label, aria-haspopup) are used so assistive technology can understand page structure and interactive state.
  • All primary navigation, forms, and buttons are operable via keyboard alone (Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, and Escape to dismiss expandable menus).
  • Form fields use visible or programmatically-associated labels, and error/success states are announced as text (not color alone).
  • Text and background colors are chosen from a deliberate, hand-tuned color system designed to meet WCAG AA contrast ratios (4.5:1 for body text, 3:1 for large text and UI components).
  • Images that convey information use descriptive alternative text; purely decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology (aria-hidden).

Known Limitations

We are honest about where we are not yet fully there:

  • Reduced motion: some interface animations and transitions do not yet consistently honor a visitor's operating-system "reduce motion" preference across every page. This is on our roadmap.
  • Third-party embeds: pages that redirect to or embed a third-party service (for example, Stripe's hosted checkout) are subject to that provider's own accessibility conformance, which we do not control directly.
  • Historical/scraped lawyer data: some lawyer profile content is sourced from public bar-association and court records and may occasionally contain formatting we cannot fully normalize for assistive technology. We continue improving this over time.

We do not claim full conformance while these limitations exist — this statement will be updated as each one is resolved and verified.

Compatibility

LawyerServed is designed to work with recent versions of major browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) and their built-in and third-party screen readers (e.g. VoiceOver, NVDA, JAWS). Some very old browser versions may not render all accessibility features correctly.

Reporting an Accessibility Issue

If you encounter an accessibility barrier anywhere on LawyerServed, please tell us. We want to know the specific page, what you were trying to do, and what assistive technology or browser you were using, so we can reproduce and fix it. Contact us at [email protected] with the subject line "Accessibility." We aim to acknowledge accessibility reports promptly and prioritize fixes based on severity and how many people are affected.

Changes to This Statement

We will update this statement as our accessibility conformance improves or as our review process changes.
